A good language teacher

A good language teacher...




1.- Is enthusiastic: he/she loves his/her students, his/her job and the subject taught.
2.- Knows the subject and tries to improve every day.
3.- Provides personal help: gives individual attention.
4.- Allows for creativity and uses variety.
5.- Promotes the use of the foreign language by his/her students.
6.- Is supportive, encouraging and patient with students.
7.- Creates a friendly, relaxed learning environment in his/her classes.
8.- Prepares his/her classes in advance.
9.- Tries to motivate students and has a sense of humor.
10.- Has control of the class: discipline, pace, time, etc.
11.- Keeps accurate records of exercises, tests and grades.
12.- Provides his/her students with comprehensible input.
13.- States the objectives of the lesson at the beginning of each class.
14.- Gives positive feedback and avoids immediate error correction.
15.- Provides students with cultural insights into the foreign country.
16.- Keeps his/her knowledge of the language updated by attending workshops, seminars and reading books and journals dealing with the didactics of the foreign language. Coordinates with other teachers..
17.- Tries to educate, not just teach a language.
18.- Does not depend entirely on the textbook and is varied with regard to materials.
19.- Is skilled in handling equipment (the blackboard, videos, multimedia, etc.)
20.- Keeps a balance when teaching the five skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing and interacting).
